Dream Weaver

Today's style icon is Cassandra Wong, (Tia Carrere in real life) of Wayne's World. For those who haven't seen it (you should!), Cassandra is Wayne's girlfriend. She's also extremely hot...And has fantastic style in these movies!

Let's examine some of Cassandra's awesome early 90s sexy rocker chick get ups:

Here's Cassandra dressed in a sexy sheer floral long sleeve top with a black tank or bustier underneath...Looking amazing and showing Wayne her killer Gerry and the Pacemakers record that she scored at a garage sale (sweet!).

Now we have Cassandra all dolled up in a crazy ass leather catsuit for the Aerosmith concert. Holy guacamole!

I'm really loving her high ponytail, matte lipstick and Jane of the Jungle-esque top here.

Aaand this is a classically kick-ass red lace halter dress with matching fingerless gloves and enormous doorknocker hoop earrings...WHAT? The guitar doesn't hurt, her cool factor, either.

Cassandra, we salute you!

Mad About Mad Men (Still)

Guys, let's talk about Peggy's shoes. It's like the sole purpose of this scene is to display this superb footwear. Seriously, this was a total throwaway couple of minutes...Except for these puppies:

Yeaaaah, baby.

Now let's check on Miss Mustang Sally.

Oh hey there, Sally. You're hanging out with Glen? That's cool. I just wanted to check out your sweet dress.

Yeah that's pretty awesome. I'd like a closer look, please.

Wow, great colors and amazing Peter Pan collar! Can you stand up so we can get a full length view?

YES! Oh my gosh with those loafers and knee socks, too. I love it! Thanks, ladybird.

I'm almost done watching all of the seasons of Mad Men. Buuuuut, soon Downton is starting back up! I can't wait. You can expect more of this (sorry).

;o)

Lovely Dita Meter Maid

This week's fashion icon is Dita Von Teese.
She is a master of crafting elaborate and delightful fantasy - something that I think many Libras (she was born on September 28th) especially excel in.

She also has a fantastic sense of style. Her outfits are complete in a way that hardly anyone attempts anymore; from her hair and makeup down to her nail polish, she is always impeccable (and most importantly, fun!) to look at.

Here are some of my favorite pictures of Dita, although it's hard to choose, really!

Scarily-clad Dita! (But her shape is so provocative and lovely!)

A frothy, girlie confection...How delicate and pretty!

Looking good in black...Kind of a more 1970s style, not her usual but she still looks amazing!

A little bit more makeup-free, wearing a bra that I would probably punch a baby for.

*Gasp!* Her breathtaking (real life!) wedding dress. I can't even believe how nice this color is, and the cut is immaculate. I love that she dared (and boy did she go for it) to flout the non-traditional white attire. I hope I have the guts to skip the white dress if I ever get married...Because seriously, do any of us pale skinned ladies really look good in that color?! ;o)

(Sartorial) Reality Does Not Bite!

I had a hankering to watch Reality Bites tonight, starring Winona Ryder, and I nearly forgot what a very fashionable movie it is!

Albeit I remember the mid-nineties when this film came out - and a lot of the accompanying styles - but I think they did get some things right in the sartorial department.

Exhibit A:

Lalena's amazing mechanic shirt, which I could not find any other pictures of on the whole Internet (I took the screen shots as proof that this amazing outfit actually happened).

Exhibit B:

Yeah, pretty much that vest, Winona's haircut and Janine's amazing '60s scooter dress...Not to mention "My Sharona" playing in the background and their amazing dance moves, which crack me up.

Exhibit C:

What with the mustard tights, platform sandals, sick sunglasses and fitted sundress? Bravo, costume stylist!

Exhibit D:

These glasses with that hair and red lips...Enough inspiration for a year!

Jeezum Crow.

1960s Magazine Inspiration

I was going through some of my merchandise the other day and found a couple of late 1960s Harper's Bazaar and Seventeen magazines that I totally forgot I had.

Paging through these, I realized that there are some seriously inspirational (and ahead of the time) makeup, clothing and hairstyles to set your creativity in motion.

Here are a few of my favorite ads:

I don't remember what this top one was for (it may have just been an illustration) but it is gorgeous.

For this second one, I really loved the shoes on the left-hand size. They are pretty edgy and rock and roll; I don't think they'd be at all out of place in an upscale department store today.

I'm not huge on the purses pictured here, but I absolutely love the way the girls are styled. The bohemian headband, playfully curly bangs, and sunglasses are very en vogue these days, too.

I think this is probably my favorite. What's NOT to like about this photo? Let's see: the amazing bejeweled bib necklace, the glam bouffant, and the sensational mod makeup. I've got to hand it to Almay - if they still make this lip color, I am probably going to buy it. Not to mention I may have to rip off this model's entire look.

Need to have the ads pictured? These magazines are actually for sale in my store. Check them out if you want by clicking here.

Mad About Mad Men

Season 3 is killing me - and I only have the season finale to go! I'm so excited.

I have to say, they really upped the ante this season in terms of costumes. I am LOVING Betty Draper's...Everything.

Here we have a rendezvous between Betty and Henry, in which she's clothed in a gorgeous floral dress and kickass sunglasses:

Later on in the season, Trudy also wears a gorgeous gown in preparation for Margaret's wedding (which she and Peter never attend due to the death of President Kennedy):

Here is a back view of the lovely detail:

And one of her removing the awesome matching blue shoes she wore to complete the ensemble:

I need to find out who designs costumes for this show. They are sensational!

Individuality & Personal Freedom

"This is a snakeskin jacket! And for me it's a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom."

Country & Western Wardrobes

Sometimes I like to start off my day with a little Dolly Parton & Porter Wagoner duet.

These two have some pretty outrageous sartorial sensibilities, as is evidenced by their 1960s and 70s Western wear...and of course, I love it!

Check out Porter's Amazing Cactus Suit in this video:

In "Joshua" Porter is wearing the same suit, but some pretty damn amazing white cowboy boots...LOVE.

And, since we're really focusing on Porter here, let's check out this goodie...

OH, yeah...GREEN Cactus suit!

Beautiful voices, even more amazing fashions...

A Man of Many Hats

As the season finale of Project Runway All-Stars quickly approaches, we must pay homage to the ever-fashionable and simply delightful Austin Scarlett.

Scarlett (NOT Starlet!) exhibits a keen fashion sense, donning printed scarves, slim silhouettes and most importantly, FANTASTIC hats!

Here are some particularly jaunty examples:

OLE!

Bad ass.
Possibly channeling a Civil War soldier in the attire?

Bowler + Button-down shirt = major fashion moment.

All he needs is a baguette and a Vespa.

Nothin' but a G thing.

Colonel Sanders Bow tie, sweet hat and skinny suspenders= Full-on awesome.

Hats ON you, Austin!

Top 3 Oscar Gowns (and Honorable Mentions)

The Most Ravishing Dress Awards Go To:
(in no particular order)

Penelope Cruz in periwinkle blue Giorgio Armani.

Michelle Williams in coral Louis Vuitton. (I wasn't impressed by this at first because the color on my t.v. screen was off...Then I saw the true color online and was wowed).

Emma Stone in fuchsia Giambattista Valli.

Honorable Mentions
(These Ladies Also Looked Incredible):

I really liked the Armani Prive dress worn that Ellie Kemper wore. I thought the colors looked amazing with her skin and hair.

I don't so much love the color of Octavia Spencer's Tadashi Shoji gown, but I think the cut is absolutely flawless on her. She could not have picked a more becoming shape for her body. Octavia's acceptance speech for best supporting actress was the only one of the entire program that moved me to tears.

I love these colors on Jessica Chastain. However, I think this McQueen creation would have jumped to the top of my list had the bottom of it been fitted. I would have preferred to see it in a mermaid-style or even a sleek and simple column shape sans the train. For me, this would have balanced out the amazing embellishment and detail.

What do you guys think about these gowns? Were there others that you loved/hated? Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. :o)

Bill Cunningham

I just watched this delightful documentary about New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham. He is known for having an amazingly discerning eye for street fashion. Bill's refreshing take on the insignificance of celebrity and riches when it comes to dressing oneself is a revelation in our current money and status-oriented culture. He is a genuine artist that sees beauty in the every day. Check it out for yourself and enjoy:

Badu = Badass

I can see why Erykah Badu and Andre Benjamin were once a couple; they're both intelligent, musically gifted and can boast sick style!

I'm sure they must have shared clothing and accessories on the regular.

Here are some of Badu's Greatest Hits (of fashion), in my opinion:

I love her hats (another thing she and Andre have in common), natural hair, nods to Americana (IE: overalls, denim shirts) and use of supersaturated colors.
