1950s Inner Circle Lingerie

A few days ago I was lucky enough to come across an amazing black lace bustier by Inner Circle (a Peter Pan company). I figured that this item was probably from the 1950s or early 60s, due to the beautiful craftsmanship and stiff cup design that was so trendy at the time.

While doing research I came across this 1953 ad for Inner Circle brand lingerie. I think it's so cool!

Here is a link to the corset I have up for sale:

The similarities in design are definitely apparent between this ad and the one I have, right? I am thinking mine could be from 1953, just like the one in the advertisement. So cool!

Come September (1961)

I really enjoyed Lisa's style in the movie Come September. Lisa was played by Italian bombshell Gina Lollobrigida, to great effect! The film was a fun little romantic comedy that had her starring opposite Rock Hudson, and the entire story takes place in Italy (reason enough to see it).

Here are some of the outfits Lisa wore that I went nuts over.

Beautiful 60's new look white gown with blue beading and matching heels. The scooter doesn't hurt, either.

Maybe my favorite outfit she wore. I love the way she looks in this medium orange hue. The skirt is so summery and flouncy, and in this case, the headscarf looks glamorous rather than grannyish.

The wedding dress that Lisa wears in the beginning and end of the film is simply breathtaking. Although I could do without the silly little crown she has on, the sheer lace over the sweetheart bodice couldn't be more stunning. It's modest enough while still showing some skin.

Aggh, I really wish I could find a full length image of this nightgown, but to no avail. It looks like, as my cousin so eloquently stated, "an ombre lemon yellow and white" dream. All of the clothing fits Lillobrigida like a glove, too...A snug (yet classy) one.

This scene was absolutely hilarious. There is nothing like watching a manly man do ridiculous early 60s dance moves - look how silly Rock Hudson looks! But what we really need to focus on is this wacko silver gown encrusted with beads and pearls. WOW.

Another winning ensemble. The neckline on this black and white graphic dress is so very modern. I adore how the costumers have paired it with a red veiled hat and white gloves. They add just the right amount of interest and color.

The shoes were also nothing to sneeze at in this flick. Here is a nice close-up of Lisa discreetly flirting with Rock Hudson in her sizzling midnight blue pumps.

I don't really think early 1960s style can be beat. It's ladylike in that women always look tied together and wear silhouettes that compliment their body types. At the same time, though, it's fun - there is a lot of tasteful color to be seen, and the introduction of light polyester fabrics made things more comfortable and easy to wear.

Bull Durham

The fantastic film Bull Durham was set in the 80s (filmed in 1987, to be exact), but you'd never necessarily know it by looking at Annie Savoy's (Sarandon's) outfits.

She employs a host of 1940s style dresses, skirts and accessories to really play up her figure and natural beauty. Her already wonderful ginger hair is big and curly (but not in a teased out way that screams "80s!").

Also, her props and the set that comprises her home are pretty amazing. The house is a beautiful, big Southern-style charmer with a generous porch. She has vintage appliances in her home, such as the green sink/cabinet set (you can see her sitting on them in one of the pictures below). Her floral wallpaper somehow looks totally amazing against the backdrop of the velvet couch...And don't even get me started on her blue car.

See for yourself:

This woman isn't just hot as hell, she's a fantastic actress, too. (And can we talk about her shoulders? ...Wow.)

As if you need another reason to watch, Kevin Costner basically secures his title as "Sexiest Man on the Planet" in this flick.

Check it out.

Hickory Dickory Dockery

Currently, one of my favorite shows is PBS's Downton Abbey, which stars the lovely Michelle Dockery.

Dockery is a fantastic actress and very stunning besides. What's more, she always looks impeccable - both on and off-screen.

Here are some of my favorite looks that she has worn for awards shows, photo shoots, and simply tooling around town:

I'm pretty sure she uses a stylist, but to amazing effect! The form-fitting silhouettes, jewel tones and flowy/silky fabrics chosen for her consistently look smashing.

I also love the soft bob haircut she currently sports - it looks period appropriate on the show, and simultaneously very modern on the red carpet.

Perhaps I will get a cut like hers.... :o)

Santigold Style

This is the perfect antidote to the freezing cold weather we've been having: awesome florals and bustiers, Voodoo-lookin' hats and a long, single earring. Not to mention a tropical locale and motorbike. Yesss, Santigold!

Virgin Suicides..Fashion Triumphs.

The cinematography really helps, but the costumes are great. I love the ethereal nightgowns that are symbolic of innocence and budding sexuality all at once.

Tube tops are the greatest, especially with removable straps.

The faded quality of this picture, along with the bra-laden cross and pastel homecoming dresses, just make it so quintessentially seventies.

Yes! Teenaged fun in school uniforms. Cute and stylish.

Ooh folks, we've got a gif! Although I'm not a fan of smoking, we've got a great jacket on our hands here.

sexy homecoming lovin'. Tiara, corsage and flouncy doll-style sleeves. You can't go wrong.

Conclusion: this film features some really fantastic fashion choices.
